Installing Debian Lenny on an Asus EeePC 900, part one

On Friday I got an Asus EeePC 900 that I had ordered a few days earlier. Now after having looked at the Xandros system that is installed on them when they are sold, it’s time to install Debian on it and become happy.

I’m following the instructions on http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEeePC/HowTo/Install and will install by booting from a USB-stick with the installer on it.

(A little while later) Now the installation is soon complete, of the base system, no problems. One of the first things I’ll look into though is things to save on diskwrites. I decided to use ext3, even if it writes a lot of periodic metadata. Well, if I should change my mind.. I can, taking it as an experiment.

So far the DebianEeePC installer and the functionality it provides is impressive. Now I’ll install some things that I want, set up X probably, and tweak the disk use a little. Expect further posts about my progress.
